The Breville Sous Chef food processor is our pick for the best food processor, for good reason. This powerful, but yet versatile food processor will make even the most tedious kitchen tasks quick and simple.

The large feed chute will make slicing and dicing foods a breeze. There’s no need to pre-cut large foods like potatoes with the wide mouth on this food processor. The large, 16-cup bowl has plenty of space for making fresh hash browns or kneading pasta or bread dough. This food processor comes with a lot of extra accessories. Not only does it have the wide mouth, 16-cup bowl, but it also comes with smaller 2.5-cup bowls for making smoothies, dips or salad dressings. This food processor also comes with 5 different blades: 3 slicing disks and two chopping blades that have their own storage case. The three blades make it easy to use this food processor for a variety of kitchen tasks. You’ll also find that this food processor comes with its own plastic spatula.

All of the accessories for the Breville Sous Chef food processor are dishwasher safe, so you won’t spend a ton of time cleaning up when you’re done cooking. We like that this food processor is not only easy to maintain, but also easy to use. The instruction manual is easy to understand, and you won’t have to work too hard to get this appliance up and running.

We will mention that this food processor is a bit on the high end of the price range, so that may be a limiting factor for some chefs. However, we think that if you’re willing to spend the money, this food processor is by far the most efficient and with so many accessories, a great value as well.

    Wrapping up

To wrap things up, this is a great food processor. It can handle all kinds of kitchen tasks, with minimal effort. It’s easy to use, and for the money, a great value. We’d recommend the Breville BFP800XL Sous Chef Food Processor for home chefs that want a great tool to add to their kitchen.

You really can’t go wrong when you pick an appliance from Cuisinart. In this case, Cuisinart was really the pioneer in food processors, so it’s only fair that it’s our runner-up.

This simple, yet efficient food processor doesn’t have a ton of extras, but it does the job, and will last a long time. The large capacity, 14-cup bowl is plenty big for any task you throw at it. The large feed tube allows you to process full vegetables without chopping first.

The slicing and shredding disks allow you to easily go from slicing veggies to shredding cheese. And since there are only two discs, this Cuisinart food processor keeps your kitchen free of added clutter.

The 720 watt motor isn’t the most powerful you can buy, but it is powerful enough to manage bread dough. The simple controls make this food processor easy to use, and with minimal accessories it’s also easy to set up. The instruction manual is easy to follow and has a few recipes that feature the capabilities of this food processor. All of the parts are dishwasher safe, so cleaning up is just as easy as using this Cuisinart food processor.

Ease of use. Push button chop and grind
Super light and portable, perfect for smaller tasks like chopping nuts
    5 colors to choose from

Not recommend to grind beans with this
    Definitely not a durable machine

    • POWER: 250 WATTS
    • DIMENSIONS: 9.25 X 7 X 5 IN

Sometimes, you just don’t need a full size food processor. Maybe you just need to chop some herbs, or maybe you need to quickly whip up some salad dressing. There’s no point in dragging out your full size food processor when you can use a smaller, more practical version.

The Cuisinart Mini-Prep Plus food processor is the perfect answer for those times when you need to quickly chop herbs or make small batches of dressings or dips. With 250 watts of power this tiny and powerful food processor will make quick work of ice, seeds and nuts. But can also handle the delicate task of chopping herbs.

This by far one of the simplest food processors to use. Simply attach the cup to the stand, insert the chopping blade, fill with food, put on the lid and you’re ready to chop. This tiny food processor comes with two control options, chop and grind, with both options working with pulse activation, so you don’t have to worry about overworking the motor.

The lid does offer you the option to add liquids like water and oil to the bowl while the blades are operating. It’s not the most convenient process but it works.

While this little food processor is simple to use, and has easy cleanup, dishwasher safe blade and bowl, it really isn’t the most powerful chopper you can buy. It does small jobs well, but don’t expect it to crush through a full bowl of hard candy or ice. An added bonus, this tiny chopper comes in five cool colors, so you can coordinate this one with your kitchen décor.

    4. Best Blender Combo – Oster Pro 1200 Blender Plus Food Processor

Premium stainless steel finish for an elegant, modern look
It has a 50% larger blade system
It has smart technology, 7 speeds and 3 pre programmed settings
    Backed by a 10-year warranty

Not easy to replace parts or cups
    Issues with customer service

    • CAPACITY: 6 CUP & 5 CUP
    • POWER: 1,200 WATTS
    • DIMENSIONS: 7.25 X 8 X 14.25 IN
    • WEIGHT: 13.4 POUNDS

This combo food processor and blender from Oster allows you to have versatility in one package. The 1,200 watt motor of this food processor and blender is more than enough power to make your favorite smoothies, but also make quick work of nuts and seeds.

This is one of the easiest to use food processors that we’ve found. The three pre-programed smart settings will make perfect milkshakes, dips and chopped veggies. The food processor comes with a removable chopping blade and a slicing/shredding disc.

Once disc does both slicing and shredding, so you don’t have to worry about where to store a bunch of parts. One thing we don’t love about the food processor is the feed chute. It is narrow, so if you want to shred or slice large items like potatoes or yams, you’ll need to cut them first.

The smoothie to-go cup is a great extra option that we don’t see included with many other food processors. It is just a storage container, so be aware that you can’t make your smoothies in the to-go container.

For the price, this combo food processor is a great option if you want to keep the number of appliances you have in your kitchen, to a minimum.

Simple design, easy to use push buttons
Lightweight so you can move anywhere
    The safety interlocking system
    Economically priced

    Bowl is not BPA free
    Louder than most others
    No added accessories

    • POWER: 450 WATTS
    • DIMENSIONS: 11.26 X 7.8 X 15.67 IN
    • WEIGHT: 5.5 POUNDS

If you don’t need a large size food processor, but need something bigger than the mini option, the Black & Decker FP1600B food processor is a great option. This food processor is also a great option if you want the benefits of a food processor, but don’t want to spend a ton of money.

This food processor comes with an 8-cup plastic bowl that can hold up to 6 cups of dry/solid foods and 3 cups of liquids. There is nothing fancy about this food processor, so you won’t have to work hard to figure out how to work it, With one bowl, a reversible slicing disc and a chopping blade, this basic food processor has everything you need to make kitchen tasks easier.

A couple of things to note about this food processor. First, the feed chute is pretty narrow, so if you want to slice or chop things like tomatoes or potatoes, you’ll need to cut them up first. Second, while the plastic bowl is lightweight and it won’t shatter into a million pieces if you drop it, it isn’t the most durable of plastic bowls. If the bowl breaks, you’ll find that replacing it is just as expensive as buying a whole new unit. Just be careful. Otherwise, this is a great value.

    6. Best Mid-Size – Braun FP3020 12 Cup Food Processor

Safe to use. The processor will not start until the lid is properly closed
    Ultra-quiet and energy efficient
    7 multi-use blades are included

    Not as powerful as others
It is a bit of a problem for storing
    Only a one year warranty

    • CAPACITY: 12 CUP
    • POWER: 600 WATTS – 110 VOLTS
    • DIMENSIONS: 14.9 X 11.3 X 15.4 IN
    • WEIGHT: 9.8 POUNDS

Our pick for the best mid-sized food processor, the Braun FP3020 is a nice option for your kitchen. The clean look of this food processor and the relatively small footprint make it easy to leave it sitting on your counter. There’s no push-button, digital controls on this unit. Operation is simple thanks to two dials.

With fairly decent power at 600 watts, the Braun food processor has plenty of power to do just about any job you can throw at it. It comes with a variety of exchangeable blades that allow you to prepare foods in many ways. The 12 cup bowl has plenty of capacity, and the chopping blades are powerful enough to knead dough.

One of the comments that we noted that many other reviewers made of this food processor is that it’s very quiet. This is also one of the few food processors that we’ve seen that has a juicer attachment. This is cool for making fresh orange juice or lemon-aid.

Easy to use, scrape clean and dishwasher safe
    Good power and capacity
Much lighter so easier to move around
    Great value for the price

    Kind of noisy
    Not as durable as some

    • CAPACITY: 10 CUP
    • POWER: 450 WATTS – 110 TO 120 VOLTS
    • DIMENSIONS: 10.25 X 8.43 X 15.47 IN
    • WEIGHT: 6.2 POUNDS

Our pick for the best budget food processor comes from Hamilton Beach. Known for quality kitchen appliances, you really can’t go wrong with this mid-sized food processor.

For less than $50, this food processor comes with a durable, plastic 10-cup bowl with a feeder chute lid. The reversible slicing blade allows you to slice or shred, depending on which way the blade is installed. And the stainless steel s-shaped chopping blade is tough enough for hard foods, but also delicate enough for herbs.

The dual speed dial operation gives you plenty of control in a simple package. One of the features that we really like about the Hamilton Beach food processor is the bowl scraper attachment. Install this before you start chopping, and you can easily scrape the walls of the bowl without taking of the lid. This is a great safety and convenience option.

The small footprint makes it easy to store on your counter top or pantry. And all of the attachments and the bowl are dishwasher safe, so clean up is easy.

Easy to use and comes with all the accessories we need
All accessories can be kept neatly organized in carrying case
Includes a main, midi, and mini bowl with mini blade
3 year warranty plus the motor is guaranteed to last 30 years

    Heavy at almost 28lbs
    Not great customer service

    • CAPACITY: 16 CUP
    • POWER: 1,100 WATTS – 110 TO 120 VOLTS
    • DIMENSIONS: 20.5 X 19.5 X 10.5 INCHES
    • WEIGHT: 27.8 POUNDS

Perfect for the chef that entertains a lot, or who likes to cook big batches for freezing, the Magimix Compact XL food processor is a great option for you. This 16-cup food processor has ample capacity for making lots of hash browns, shredding cheese, slicing tomatoes or making a big pot of soup.

The simple controls on this food processor let you run the unit in auto mode for chopping or switch to pulse for more control. The large feed chute allows you to slide full tomatoes or potatoes, and the removable food pusher gives you the ability to add liquids to your processor while the blades are running.

The Magimix food processor comes with a large 16 cup bowl, but also two smaller bowls and blades so you’ve got tons of versatility when it comes to quantity. The other availability attachments include an egg beater, dough kneader, spatula and a handy storage box for all the accessories.

The price point on this blender is a bit on the high side, but it’s almost like having three food processors in one.

Stylish look that provides tremendous versatility
    Powerful yet quiet motor
Multiple accessories included and others can be purchased
The power cord handily stores in the base of the machine

It’s large and will take up a lot of your counter space
Some find it cumbersome to move
    A bit pricey

    • CAPACITY: 16, 10 AND 4 CUP
    • POWER: 650 WATTS
    • DIMENSIONS: 12 X 9.75 X 18 IN
    • WEIGHT: 28.5 POUNDS

By far, this is the priciest food processor on our list, but we think it’s well worth the cash. KitchenAid is known for their long-lasting, heavy duty kitchen appliances, and this is no exception.

This professional grade food processor does everything from slice and dice, to shred, puree, mix, and knead. The 650 watt motor has plenty of power to handle the toughest tasks.

Each cutting disk is easy to install and the safety shield gives you added comfort when using this food processor. We really like the feed chute on the KitchenAid, with the multi-sized openings that allow you to slice full sized vegetables or simply add liquid to the bowl.

The other feature that we really like are the 4 and 10 cup bowl options, so you have just the right amount of capacity for everything from veggies to salad dressing.

The simple control dial and power switch allow you to easily adjust the speed and pulse of the motor. All of the attachments and bowls are dishwasher safe, so clean up is just as quick and simple as slicing carrots with this KitchenAid food processor.

After researching and testing, we found that our favorite food processor for 2020 is the Breville BFP800XL Sous Chef Food Processor. It is simple to use, and has good options for the at-home, amateur cook.

Honestly, a lot of kitchen gadgets are purchased and just sit in a closet. We have found that the food processor is not one of those appliances. They are so handy, and if you like yours as much as we like ours, you’ll find you use it almost daily.

If you need a new food processor, hopefully our review and shopping guide will help you find the right appliance for your kitchen.

How to Choose the Best Food Processor

If you’re shopping for a food processor, and you’re overwhelmed by the number of options that are out there, it’s helpful to have some tools to help narrow the choices. Here is our list of factors you should consider when buying a food processor.

Most food processors don’t take up a ton of space. For the most part, you’ll find that the footprint of most food processors on the market are comparable to your standard coffee maker. However, you can find larger, commercial style food processors that take up a bit more space. Consider the space that you have on your counter top or in storage when you’re shopping for the right size food processor for you.

This is probably the most important factor you should consider when you’re shopping for a food processor. Food processor work bowls come in sizes that range from just a couple of cups to 16 cups. The size you choose is dependent on what you are going to use your food processor for, and how many people you’re cooking for.

Many food processors that are larger than 7 cups will have a feed chute. This will allow you to slowly feed ingredients in to the food processor, without removing the lid or stopping the blades. There are some smaller food processors with this feature, but the options are limited.

Like with size and capacity, power of food processors varies as well. We see food processor power ranging from 250 watts to 1200 watts. There is really good correlation between size and power.

Mini food processors that are made for small chopping jobs, generally come with a lower wattage. This makes sense since you probably aren’t using them for big jobs, or hard to chop foods. Larger food processors will have more wattage (more power), so they are better for a larger range of uses.

Look for larger capacity food processors with a minimum of 750 watts of power. This will give you better chopping and slicing results, and you won’t have to worry about burning up the motor of your food processor with heavy dough or ice.

It is important to understand the difference between a blender and a food processor. Yes, they both chop foods, but they have very different blades. Blenders have blades that are made to grind up foods into very small pieces. Food processors come with disk blades that allow you to slice veggies, shred potatoes or dice onions.

Some food processors will come with other interchangeable blades that allow you to make dough or to diagonal cut. If you are really wanting to get the most from your food processor, our recommendation is to look for one that comes standard with a variety of blades.

Also, make sure that the blades are made from a good quality metal. This will keep them sharp over time, and will make slicing, shredding, or chopping more efficient.

Besides the option of different blades, some food processors do come with some extra accessories. You may find food processors that come with knives, spatulas or other tools that you can use with the food processor, or that coordinate with the unit. There aren’t a ton of these on the market, but certainly if you want to have some extra goodies, accessories are something to look for when you’re shopping for your food processor.

    Ease of use

There are a couple of things here that you want to consider. First, how easy is assembly? If you have to break out the instruction book every time you use your food processor, it’s probably not that easy to use. This isn’t rocket science so look for a product that is simple to assemble.

Also, make sure the parts are dishwasher safe. It doesn’t do much to save you time, if you can chop super-fast, but the blades and bowls have to be hand washed.
