Gas stoves have long been a popular choice for commercial kitchens. However, they are really starting to become a staple in most home kitchens as well.
Everything you can do on an electric stove, you can accomplish with gas. The difference is the heat level. Gas ranges provide a high heat option you just can’t get with your standard electric range.
The only “inconvenience”? Your gas range will need to be connected to a gas line in your home. It’s not a simple plug and play, like an electric range.
Once you sort out the gas line, you will still need to answer a number of questions. What size range? What brand is most reliable? How many BTUs are best? Do I want a solid grate or single grates?
We looked at a large number of gas stoves. But the one product that stood out from all the others was the NXR Professional Style Gas Range with Convection Oven.
It is constructed of durable and attractive materials, is easy to use, easy to clean, has intuitive features and performs well even though it is modestly priced.
How to Choose the Best Gas Stove?
Still not sure what you’re looking for? Don’t fret – in our handy guide to gas ranges, we’ll help you understand what to look for.
Our first task is to help you better understand the gas range, their features, and how to select the right range for your kitchen.
When you are shopping for a gas range, you’ll notice that they come with two kinds of cooking surfaces – Continuous grates and single-burner grates. Most will prefer the continuous grate option.
These are nice because they provide a “solid” surface that you can easily move pots and pans around on. They usually are made of two or three removal grates that make clean-up easy. Many gas ranges also feature a mid-section griddle.
Heat output or cooking power for things like gas ranges, grills and other gas appliances is measured in British Thermal Units or BTUs. The higher the BTU, the more power or heat your gas range is going to create.
Look for ranges with BTUs between 20,000 and 13,000 BTUs for the main cooking burners. You may also find gas ranges with a smaller, simmer burner that will measure in at 5,000 BTUs.
Your oven capacity is going to determine how much food you can cook at one time. Capacity does matter, but most measure in at 4.8 cubic feet or more, so you should have plenty of room for that massive Thanksgiving turkey unless you have the Turkey fryer.
Other handy features that most ovens come with are two or three removable racks, and a broiler and a convection fan.
When it comes to gas ranges, size is important. You need to select the right range for the space it needs to fit in. Most brands come in standard sizes of 30 and 36”. There are also variations in range depth, so make sure that you carefully measure the space that your range needs to fit in whether you prefer small or bigger one.
There’s not much to say about reliability, but this. We don’t recommend buying a random, off brand. Stick to products from companies that are well known, have good manufacturer’s warranties, and that rate highly for reliability and customer service.
Gas ranges come with a variety of added features, all of which are designed to make your life easier. They range from easy to use knobs, push button controls and even Wi-Fi controls and Alexa enabled features.
However, we think the best feature you can look for is a self-cleaning oven. It is the easiest way to clean your oven.
Style counts for something too. Sure, ranges all look sort of the same, and it might seem strange to consider the design of your new range unless you prefer the rocket stove for backpacking use. However, finding a range style that matches your kitchen and other appliances like countertop microwave oven and wall ovens helps to draw your kitchen together.
