  • Overall Design: The Fast Eddy PG500 is bulky, jagged, and ugly. More than appearance it takes up far more space than necessary for what it provides. It is unwieldy to move, difficult to properly store or permanently place (it is too large for most porches and still unsightly for patios). It is also horrendously heavy (330 lbs!), being made entirely of stainless steel. This in itself is an issue as the steel is unfinished, leaving it highly reflective. Cooking in the summer heat and brightness is a nightmare with a grill this shiny, and overall makes using this grill an unpleasant, irritating experience.
  • Small Grilling Space: Despite this grill’s insane bulk, it still only boasts a 504 square inch grilling space. It attempts to claim an over 700 inch space, but that deceptively includes the warming racks in the total estimate.
  • Chute Fed Pellets: Most modern pellet smokers feed the pellets via an auger and induction fan to properly maintain temperature and speed of pellet use. This grill does not, leaving it less efficient than its competitors.
  • Finicky: The proper temperature range for smoking is narrow, and results in small miscalculations in temperature dissipating most of the smoke, leaving your meat less flavorful than it should be.
  • Price: This grill has a price as monstrous as its size, despite the myriad flaws plaguing every aspect of the grill’s design. Were it a cheap and simple grill the other flaws could maybe be forgiven, but this is the final nail in the coffin.

This grill is costed at roughly 3-4 times what it’s actually worth, which is a shame because otherwise it is a very high quality grill…just not for what Memphis Grills is asking you to pay for it.

Even the pictures on Camp Chef’s website shows meat (in this case, three racks of ribs) needing to be packed very tightly into this small space to cook properly, making arranging the meat a pain to deal with and will cause constant fiddling, particularly if meat ever needs to be flipped.

Primitive Grease Catcher:  Grease catcher is a simple bucket on the side of the grill. Worse, it is perched precariously on a smaller notch than usual, making it likely to slip as the weight of the bucket increases over long cooking times.

No Included Attachments: The Smoke Pro STX has no cooling rack or side table included, making it less convenient to use. Attachments are available separately but are generally not priced well for the overall quality.

Poor Leg Design: Legs are simplistic and relatively flimsy for the purpose.
